|Bezug zu Low Carbon Timber=Based on very important position that is given to local (low carbon) timber in the Bohinj area, it was quite logic to chose Bohinj area as a main regional/national CaSCo Smart Place, so called ''Smart Place for local LC timber''. It is located in the Municipality of Bohinj and consists from info point with touch screen where visitors can enter to TIMBER.WIKI platform. All the framework of this ICT equipment is made out of local LC timber, made by local timber company (info point is located in the lobby). Smart Place has also other elements, t.i. furniture components made out local LC timber by local company, which are also located at the Municipality and labelled by CaSCo labels. Info point and timber furniture together form a ''network Smart Place'', where visitors can get both very rich and various data on LC timber topics and practical impression of LC timber products. But not only sthe pace of Municipality building, but the entire territory of Bohinj community area displays number of historical and modern constructions made out of local timber. Timber urban furniture of Bohinj Bike Trail was also awarded by CaSCo Regional Timber Award in 2018, while market cottages at the open-air market in Ribčev Laz, based in traditional Alpine shepard house, were included into CaSCo publication titled ''Collection of LCT approaches from selected Alpine regions''. | Description | Municipality of Bohinj is one of the most motivated, succesful, creative and innovative local communities in Slovenia regarding the use and support to local timber. Such attitude and activities are based on forests that cover majority of this Alpine basin with surrouding mountains of Julian Alps (partly within Triglav National Park) and centuries long tradition of processing and use of local timber. Forests and timber which is used for variety of historical and modern constructions, are also important part of traditional landscape and cultural heritage, which are key elements of very succesful sustainable tourism in this area. As such, both public and private actors-investors, are very keen to the use of low carbon local timber, and they support both local timber investments and local timber processing entreprenourship. In doing this, they have been including number of top timber friendly architects and designers. As a result of this, community has so far received number of green tourism, architectural and design awards on national and EU level, and it is widely regarded as one of most successful communities in preserving typical landscape. |
